PN requests debate in Parliamentary Committee on Mater Dei structural problems

Malta Independent Tuesday, 2 September 2014, 15:40 Last update: about 11 years ago

The PN, through its members in the Permanent Committee for Health Claudio Grech and Michael Gonzi, have asked Chairman Etienne Grech to call an urgent meeting of the Committee to discuss the situation regarding the Mater Dei emergency section structure.

Recently, it was discovered that the emergency wing of Mater Dei would not support any additional wards as the concrete structures were too weak. This was uncovered whilst government appointed contractors were asked to investigate.

An investigation by police is said to have been requested.

The PN feels that each and every declaration and allegation made regarding this topic should be discussed in Parliament, considering that hundreds of patients, doctors and nurses enter the ward each day. The health and security of these people needs to be given top priority, the PN added.
