Somali handed suspended sentence after attacking police officers

24-year-old Ahmed Mooge Ahmed was sentenced to 18 months suspended for 3 years after he pleaded guilty to attacking two police officers.

The incident happened early yesterday morning when police officers  Daniel Zammit and Joseph Camilleri approached the accused in Paceville.

At the time, the accused was under the influence of alcohol and shouting into a telephone inside a telephone box. When police approached him, Ahmed grabbed one of the police officer by the throat and also attempted to bite the other police officer.

He was also accused of breaching public order and being drunk in public.

Dr Noel Bartolo represented the accused. Magistrate Mariam Hayman presided.
