PN welcomes Prime Minister’s call for unity in Independence celebrations

The Nationalist Party welcomes Prime Minister Joseph Muscat's call for national unity as Malta celebrates the 50th anniversary of Independence next week, the Party said in a statement.

“The Nationalist Party urges Muscat to go one step further – to walk the talk - and to ensure that national unity is not just a slogan under Labour administration but a fact of life.”

The PN urged Dr Muscat “walk the talk” by reversing his unilateral decision to cancel local council elections which jars within an independent and democratic country.

The PN also called on the Prime Minister to give back to the people the public property that the Labour Party seized, over the years, most recently the multi-million Australia Hall.

The Party asked Dr Muscat to reverse the discriminatory transfers meted out to talented people whose only fault was that of not voting Labour.

Before calling for talent from abroad, the Prime Minister would do well to cherish the talent that he has cast aside in his own country, the PN said.

The Party reiterated that its MEPs will vote in favour of Karmenu Vella's nomination as a Member of the European Commission and expressed its surprise at the negative reaction from the Prime Minister.

Rather than welcoming the Nationalist Party’s public statement of support for Karmenu Vella, the Prime Minister is casting doubt on it. Surely this is not a good way to rally national unity, the PN said.
