Malta Independent Wednesday, 17 September 2014, 14:24 Last update: about 11 years ago

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona this afternoon hit out at the media, complaining about their coverage of court proceedings.

The Magistrate passed the comments during the continuation of compilation of evidence against Jason Galea and George Galea, who stand accused of murdering Mario Camilleri, known as L-Imniehru, and his son, Mario Camilleri Jnr.

Present in the courtroom were reporters from The Malta Independent, Times of Malta, Malta Today, Nazzjon and L-Orrizont.

As he looked towards them, the magistrate complained about their attitude, however did not make clear what it was that annoyed him. He did however say, the media knew exactly to what he was referring to, and should stop trying to pretend they did not.

The magistrate passed the comment as defence counsel Gianella de Marco was speaking, and he accused her of trying to make her argument in a way that would encourage media reports.

The defence counsel was complaining to how the prosecution had failed to bring forward new witnesses, even though they had six weeks to do so and despite the fact that four police inspectors are involved in the case.

The case against Jason Galea and George Galea has been deffered to September 29.
