Romanian handed suspended sentence after stealing car fuel

28-year-old Nicusor Bigu, from Romania, was sentenced to 1 year prison, suspended for two years, after he pleaded guilty to stealing fuel, and a car battery from a truck parked in Santa Venera.   The incident happened on 7 September, at around 11.30am, when the accused stole from the vehicle, belonging to Wayne Cassar. Mr Cassar witnessed the accused committing the act, and took note of the number plate of the vehicle used by Mr Bugu. He was arrested a few days after.   The Romanian admitted to causing damage to Mr Cassar's car, and another vehicle belonging to Mandy Cassar. He even admitted of driving carelessly.   In addition to the suspended sentence, Mr Bigu's driving licence has been suspended for a year.

 

Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona presided. Inspector James Grech prosecuted, while Dr Robert Montaldo represented the accused.
