A foundation dedicated to Lisa Maria Zahra, the girl who died last March at Dingli Cliffs, is to be set up next month, The Malta Independent has learnt.

“The Lisa Maria Foundation” will be launched on Monday 6 October at the Radisson Blu Resort, St Julian’s.

The Lisa Maria Foundation will be a non-governmental, non-profit organization with an over-arching objective to safeguard children and young people from harm.  To achieve its objectives, the foundation will bring together the leaders of the various local institutions to devise and implement proactive strategies to secure a safe and happy environment within which children and young people can develop to their full potential.

In line with its founding principles, The Lisa Maria Foundation will focus its resources on these three key areas:

• the effective selection procedures of all personnel entrusted with the care of children and young people;

• the  promotion of a code of behaviour that prescribes the appropriate boundaries between adults and young people;

• raising awareness and educating children, parents and all persons working with children and young people on the safe use of social media.

Lisa Maria died on 31 March at Dingli Cliffs. Erin Tanti is being accused of murdering Zahra and assisting her suicide.
