A 29-year-old Serb national was today jailed 20 months and fined €1,500 for trafficking cocaine.

Milos Peris, who resides in St Julians, admitted to trafficking the drug as well as of being in possession of cannabis and magic mushrooms.

Inspector Nikolai Sant said police officers found three packets of cannabis, a plastic bag with 17 grams of white powder and a small amount of magic mushrooms. The accused had admitted to trafficking in his initial statement.

In handing down her judgement, Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras considered the fact that the accused admitted to the drug charges and had cooperated with the police.

The court also ruled that there was no evidence that some €6,300 in cash found on Mr Peris’ body came from illegal activities and ordered the money to be returned to the accused.
