25,531 students return to state schools today

As today marks the start of the scholastic year, 25,531 students will be returning to state primary and secondary schools. A total of 3,476 teachers, 1,832 LSAs will be welcoming them.

In a press release, the ministry of education said that “the beginning of this scholastic year marks important policy landmarks which continue to the government’s plan to improve the education system in Malta.”

This summer, millions were invested into schools’ infrastructure in a bid to improve the school environment for children and staff alike.

This year also marks the second year of a six-year cycle which will see a changeover to a co-education system at Secondary level, and the Middle School concept, whereby Forms 1 and 2 will be distanced from 3, 4 and 5.

Meanwhile, spokesperson for the Opposition Joe Cassar wished students, as well as teachers, a successful academic year. He added, that these students represent the future generation, and their education deserves to be prioritised by authorities. “Even though students have to face several challenges throughout their studies, this will serve them later in life, when they enter the workforce."

The Nationalist Party lauded teachers for their essential work, contributing to the development of such students.
