Malta Independent Monday, 22 September 2014, 14:57 Last update: about 11 years ago

27-year-old radiographer Nicholas Schembri today pleaded not guilty to the involuntary homicide of Orazio Mannino, an Italian who died during a traffic accident in May of last year.

The accident happened on the 27 May 2013 on the coast road, and involved a Suzuki motorcycle, driven by the Italian, and a Peugeot 207, driven by the Schembri.

Taking the stand, Alan Drago, the medical doctor on duty at the Emergency Department that day, said that the motorcyclist was already dead when he arrived in hospital and attempts to revive him proved unsuccessful. The victim had severe injuries around his stomach, wrist and legs.

Inspector Josric Mifsud prosecuted. Lawyer Joe Giglio was defence counsel.
