Minister for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties Helena Dalli today visited a leading pharmacy in Vittoriosa on the occasion of World Pharmacists Day, this year’s theme being ‘Access to Your Pharmacist’.

The aim of this campaign is to enhance the relationship between the pharmacists, the public and a wide array of health professionals.

During her visit the minister announced that the prices of a number of generic medicines have been reduced.

The generic medicines, nine in all, which have been reduced are identical to branded pharmaceuticals, since they include the same ingredient or composition and include medicines used to treat psychological disorders and antibiotics. The reductions vary between nine per cent and sixty five per cent.

Pharmacy students will also be handing out leaflets displaying information related to medicines at  to promote the theme of community pharmacists as persons of trust.

While there, the minister also announced plans tied to a Doctorate in Pharmacy course, which is to kickstart for the first time at the University of Malta next month.
