Yet again, Ghar id-Dud Street in Sliema is closed to traffic without a warden on site.
I have just called the local council again and I was given the same response: that the secretary of the council and the members of the Council can decide when a warden is not necessary.
When we requested permission to close the road for a couple of hours to carry out repair work on the roof of our house we were given a whole load of excuses because it is a main arterial road and a warden was obligatory!
I find it very discriminatory that a resident of Sliema requires a permit and a warden and has to incur all the related expenses and hassle, while a building contractor can do without!
The road has already been closed on 29 September till 9pm and again on 1 October, without a warden, and I will refrain from commenting on the mess left behind.
This situation is clearly unacceptable and further strengthens my belief that Sliema local council is clearly discriminating against its residents.
I hope that the authorities responsible for Sliema local council will make sure that this inconvenience does not happen again.
