Man accused of Kalkara murder granted bail against €30,000 deposit and personal guarantee

Gregorio Scicluna, accused of murdering Joseph Caruana On 13 October 2013, in Kalkara, was granted bail today.

Mr Scicluna faces a total of 11 charges, with the most serious being the murder of 61-year-old Joseph Caruana. He is also accused of the attempted murder of his former partner of 9 years - the victim's 27-year-old daughter Simone - and of their two eldest daughters, aged 3 and 5, as well as of causing serious injuries to Ms Caruana and to the 3-year old child.

Four shots from a shotgun were fired, three hitting Mr Caruana and a fourth hitting a car parked outside the house

Forensic expert Joseph Mallia had earlier in the case confirmed the fingerprints found on the weapon matched Scicluna's and gunshot residue was also found on his clothes.

Bail was granted on condition that the accused stay away from the family of the deceased and does not attempt to contact them.

Mr Scicluna must also sign at the Zejtun police station daily and must not leave his home between 10pm and 8am. He must also not speak with any of the witnesses.

Bail was granted against a deposit of €30,000 and a personal guarantee of the same amount.
