Monday, 20 October 2014, 16:35 Last update: about 11 years ago

As of this month, Mepa will be hosting a series of tours aimed at cultivating an awareness about Malta's biodiversity and heritage planning. Over the past five years, these Sunday tours have become a popular educational and cultural experience holding a place in Mepa's corporate responsibility agenda. The public is invited to attend for these tours against a minimal fee of €2.50 per person which will be donated to the Malta Community Chest Fund. This year's heritage planning tour will focus on the locality of Rabat and its whereabouts. Participants will be able to appreciate and visit some of Rabat's unique historic landmarks such as Malta's oldest pharmacy which was built in mid-14th century and the troglodytic caves known as Ghar il-Kbir in Buskett, among other sites. The tour will also highlight the urban conservation area of the village and participants will be invited to value the typical architectural features of Maltese traditional houses and how they evolved over the years. This year the biodiversity tour will allow participants to explore the area known as Wied ta' Miġra Ferħa, limits of Rabat. This area boasts of stretches of unspoilt Maltese nature and its particular geomorphologic and ecological characteristics. Visitors will be invited to observe the richness of the species found within this area which lie within the gorge at the bottom of the valley. Participants will also be able to admire breath-taking views from the nearby cliffs featuring Malta's geological beauty. Transport will be provided and will leave from Floriana (in front of the Phoenicia Hotel) at 9am. The tour will be over by 12.30pm. Tours will be organised once a month and bookings will be taken on a first-come first-served basis. To book a place for these tours, visit the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mepa.outlook, call on 2290 2021 or send an email on [email protected]
