11th Edition of L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign launched

Tuesday, 21 October 2014, 19:29 Last update: about 10 years ago

The eleventh edition of the L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank campaign was launched at Verdala Palace by The President of Malta H.E. Marie Louise ColeiroPreca and Mr Edgar Preca.

This is the first stage in a campaign that will reach its culmination on the 26th December when the sum collected is presented during the live broadcast by BOV representatives. The campaign sees a piggy bank distributed to each and every class in all Primary and Secondary Schools around Malta and Gozo.

Work on the campaign starts months earlier though, when volunteers from the Malta Girl Guides come together to clean the piggy banks, split them by school and have them ready in boxes for distribution. The distribution requires the efforts of a large number of volunteers, who together with the Armed Forces of Malta visit every school first to distribute and later to collect the piggy banks.

This will be the first time under the new Presidency that Mr Edgar Preca will visit a number of schools as part of the L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign. These occasions serve as an opportunity for school children to meet the Presidency and speak about the Campaign and their involvement in it.

Chief Executive Officer Charles Borg expressed his satisfaction at the way the L-Istrina BOV Piggy Bank Campaign has grown over the years, "Since it was first launched in 2004, the Campaign has continued to grow steadily. We are delighted not only with the amount of funds collected through this campaign, but also because this initiative helps to instil the spirit of altruism among children from a young age, and teach them to appreciate the importance of showing solidarity within our multi-cultural community."

The President of Malta H.E. Marie Louise ColeiroPreca addressed the College Principals and Heads of schools urging them to participate actively in this campaign. She said that schools must be the cradle that fosters the value of solidarity among children and youths, bringing everyone together in unity to  uphold and support one another.
