A Finnish man, Jyrki Juhani Sinisalo, who on Monday crashed into a Mercedes Benz with his motorcycle, after taking a wrong turn, was conditionally discharged for six months by Magistrate Anthony Vella.

The accident occurred in Great Siege Road, Valletta late on Monday. A Danish woman riding the pillion was in critical condition as a result of the accident but now is out of Intensive Care but has a fractured leg. The driver of the car was unhurt.

The man, who appeared in court with a broken arm, told the court that he is used to driving on the right in Finland and therefore got confused and took a wrong turn in the opposite direction.

The prosecution withdrew one of the charges filed against him, that of driving in a dangerous and reckless manner.

The charges brought against him included causing grievous bodily harm to the Danish woman, causing damages to a taxi to the detriment of Christopher Borg and failing to observe regulations.
