In September, the number of persons registering for work stood at 6,599, compared to 7,619 in the corresponding month last year, the NSO said today.
Data provided by the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC) for September indicate a decrease of 972 persons registering under Part I and a decline of 48 among those registering under Part II of the unemployment register, when compared to the corresponding month last year. Decreases in registered unemployment were recorded among all age-groups with the larger difference being recorded among registrants aged 30-44 (-277 registrants).
When compared to September last year, an increase of 37 persons was recorded among those who had been registering for employment for more than one year. On the other hand, the number of persons who had been registering for less than 21 weeks declined by 626. The number of disabled persons registering for work decreased by 65 to 453. Males accounted for 84.3 per cent of the total number of registrants with a disability.
The largest share of men on the register sought occupations as crafts and related trade workers, whereas women mostly sought occupations as technicians and associate professionals.
The registered unemployed rate in May stood at 4.2 per cent of the labour supply (excluding part-time employment - refer to methodological note 5), and varied from 5.0 per cent among men to 2.8 per cent among women.
