Photovoltaic panel contract: Police have not contacted me yet – George Pullicino

Former Minister George Pullicino said that PN leader Simon Busuttil's declaration that the party would take him to task if he is found to have been corrupt is a reflection of what he himself said in a party parliamentary group meeting earlier in the week.

Mr Pullicino was speaking in the wake of charges levelled against him in parliament over a letter of intent for solar panel contract worth €35 million by Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi. The contact stipulated a feed-in tariff of 23c per electricity unit for 35 years, when the feed in tariff should have been 16c. Mr Pullicino denied that he had set the feed in tariff. Addressing the PN's general convention on Sunday, Dr Busuttil said that he will take the necessary steps should the police find a case against the nationalist MP.

Asked for his reaction on the Opposition Leader's statement, Mr Pullicino said that within the PN's parliamentary group on Tuesday, he had himself declared that if he had the slightest doubt about the allegations, he would have resigned immediately so as not to damage the party's reputation. He reiterated that he is convinced he's done nothing wrong. "In his speech on Sunday, Dr Busuttil made it clear that the Labour Party is merely resorting to mudslinging yet again. Dr Mizzi has repeatedly lied about the power station project, so now is he is trying to divert the public's attention by making up allegations about me," Mr Pullicino said.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced that the case has now been handed over to the police. However, Mr Pullicino said that he has not been contacted by any member of the police as yet.
