A young couple admitted in court today to stealing five charity donation boxes from a number of localities and stealing money from cars.

Sandra Grixti, 26, of Zurrieq and Christian Said, 31, of Fgura, who are both unemployed were arrested earlier today after stealing a collection box from a Zebbug lotto booth.

The two were accused of stealing five donation boxes from Zebbug, Hamrun, Fgura and Birkirkara in the past few days. They were also charged with stealing a handbag with money from a shop in Kalkara, stealing money from two cars in Zabbar and Qormi and committing the crimes while under a probation order.

Christian Said was also accused of breaching bail conditions related to another case and of holding an invalid ID card. The prosecution asked the court to revoke the previous bail decision and seize a €5,000 personal guarantee.

The accused pleaded guilty to all charges and did not ask for bail. The Magistrate, however, noted that the woman has a drug problem and recommended that she is held at Mount Carmel Hospital.

The sentences against Mr Said and Ms Grixti will be delivered tomorrow and on 3 November respectively.

Inspectors Joseph Mercieca, Roderick Agius and Josric Mifsud prosecuted.

Lawyers Noel Bianco and Silvio Brincat appeared for Ms Grixti and Lawyer Yanika Bugeja appeared for Mr Said.
