A 65-year-old World and European power lifting champion has accused the Commissioner of Police of failing to take action against a police officer who threatened him.

In a judicial protest, Francis Spiteri said he won a number of World and European power lifting and squat competitions. He has also broken a number of world and European records. He claimed that Police Sergeant Kris Mintoff and police contsable Ryan Agius - who are also members of the Malta Drug Free Power Association - are obstructing him in taking part in any other competitions out of jealousy.

Mr Spiteri also claimed that PC Agius threatened him by telephone five months ago. He filed a report at the Cospicua police station and asked for criminal action to be taken against the policeman. He is claiming, however, that the Police Commissioner has abusively and illegally failed to take action. The claimant said he will hold the Commissioner responsible for any damages he might suffer.

Mr Spiteri also claimed that Sergeant Mintoff is not only deceiving and ridiculing him but is also witholding important information on competitions. He claimed that the sergeant had also asked him for money to buy equipment for the club without showing how the money was spent. He is asking the police sergeant to stop this "abusive and illegal" behaviour. Lawyer Frank Cassar signed the judicial protest.
