MUMN in talks to extend the Community Services and to address the waiting lists issue

Saturday, 22 November 2014, 12:06 Last update: about 10 years ago

MUMN represented by Paul Pace (President) and Colin Galea (General Secretary) had the first meeting with Health Minister Dr Konrad Mizzi and Parliamentary Secretary Dr Chris Fearne regarding the introduction of the Family Health Nurse in the community care.

During this meeting both parties discussed the nursing challenges in the operating theatres and in the surgical wards at Mater Dei Hospital which need to be addressed so that the Health Department can be in a better position to address the waiting lists in the these departments, an MUMN statement said.

Such meeting was organised after MUMN had issued a press release last Tuesday, stating that the Maltese population still lacks from the services of the Family Health Nurse, which is resulting with patients who have been discharged from Mater Dei Hospital to be readmitted in a matter of a few days and with substantial waiting lists to the elderly residence since no proper community services are being provided to the chronically ill respiratory patients.

Such meeting was the beginning of a series of meetings with a follow up meeting planned in two weeks time. '

MUMN will be holding various meetings with nurses working in various departments starting Sunday with the Theatre Nurses to consult with them about the existing challenges so as to seek solutions that will be presented in the next meeting with the ministry.
