Police Commissioner denies reports which claim he ordered the Scotsman's car to be moved

Saturday, 22 November 2014, 15:04 Last update: about 10 years ago

In a statement issued by the Police, the Police Commissioner has denied giving any order to move the low loader on which the car belonging to the Scottish man who apparently hit the minister's car had been placed before the magisterial inquiry took place.

The government has been attacked of infringing current procedure and moving an exhibit, in this case, the minister's car, before the magisterial inquiry.

In his statement, the Police Commissioner insisted the only order he had given was for Superintendent A Mamo to go on site.

The Commissioner added that, as is done in similar circumstances, a low loader is taken so that after the onsite inquiry is over, the cars are taken to the CID yard as happens any time there is a magisterial inquiry.

Although the car had been loaded on to the low loader, the Commissioner said, it remained there and the onsite inquiry was duly carried out.

In a reaction, the Nationalist Party said that the Police Commissioner has now confirmed that tampering with proofs had taken place.

However, the Commissioner has not yet replied to Opposition criticism that Minister Mallia's driver has not yet been arraigned in court.

The Opposition will keep insisting to be given a reason why this has not happened yet.
