A 37-year-old Somali refugee today admitted to stealing a handbag but said he committed the crime to be able to buy something to eat after his employer told him he would not get paid.
The court heard how Abdiaziz Hassan Ibrahimm stole a handbag in Paceville on 23 Novemember. The man, who has been living in Malta since 2012, told Magistrate Carol Peralta that his employer had refused to pay him and he had stolen the handbag to be able to buy food. The Magistrate cautioned the accused and told him that he could not take matters into his own hands. He handed him a one year jail term suspended for two years.
Lawyer Anthony Cutajar appeared for the accused. Inspector Caroline Fabri prosecuted.
