A tribute was paid to Archbishop Emeritus Paul Cremona as the Church celebrated the feast of Christ the King yesterday.

Celebrating mass at St John's Cathedral yesterday, Mgr Cremona reiterated that he resigned because he succumbed to tiredness, adding that the church needs creative people to lead the country through evangelisation.

Mgr Charles Scicluna, who is currently serving as Apostolic Administrator Bishop, thanked the former archbishop for his countless acts of charity. "May your successor share your knowledge," he told him.

"Following the passing away of Bishop Emeritus Nikol Cauchi, you served as my spiritual leader. The Gozitan community is grateful," Bishop for Gozo Mario Grech said.

Present for the mass was Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Leader of the Opposition Simon Busuttil.
