Since 2013, a total of €1,734,000 has been collected through swimming pool licences, Malta Resource Authority CEO Anthony Rizzo told The Malta Independent.
The licence fee is payable annually based on the volume capacity of the swimming pool, with €4/m3 for domestic and €6/m3 for commercial pools. This, however, will change with the budget as the government has proposed a 15% fee hike.
The MRA CEO explained that there are a total of 4,007 licensed pools in Malta. Back in 2008 there were 2000 swimming pools, meaning that in 6 years the number has doubled.
Administrative fees are paid directly to the MRA by the applicant.
