Updated: Champions League Last 16 stage: Real Madrid to face Schalke; Europa League draws

Associated Press Monday, 15 December 2014, 11:00 Last update: about 10 years ago

Defending champion Real Madrid will play Schalke in the last 16 of the Champions League, a year after routing the Germans at the same stage last season.

In another repeat pairing in Monday's draw, Barcelona will again travel first to play Manchester City.

Last season, the Spanish powers won the away leg and then also at home to advance easily, Madrid 9-2 on aggregate and Barcelona 4-1.

Arsenal will host Monaco first in a special pairing for longtime coach Arsene Wenger, who made his reputation at the French club in the 1980s.

"It's AS Monaco - Mon. Wenger will be happy about the draw," Arsenal playmaker Mesu Ozil wrote on his Twitter account.

Paris Saint-Germain hosts Chelsea in a repeat of last year's quarterfinals, Bayern Munich is away first against Shakhtar Donetsk, and Juventus hosts Borussia Dortmund in the opening leg in a repeat of the 1997 final.

Back then, Dortmund beat the heavily favored Italians, who were the defendingchampions, 3-1.

Also, it was: Bayer Leverkusen vs. Atletico Madrid and FC Basel vs. FC Porto.

The first legs are played Feb. 17-18 and 24-25. Return matches are March 10-11 and 17-18. The final is scheduled for June 6 at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
