Since the Labour government took over the country’s administration in March 2013, the number of full-time jobs created in the private sector amounted to 6,869, or a rise of 6%, and which is also equivalent to 13 new jobs every day, the government said today.

This advancement was registered in spite of 725 Arriva employees left the private sector to be placed temporarily in the public sector. Had this not happened, the increase in the private sector would have been close to 7,600, or a 7% increase.

The increase registered in the previous administration was less than half of what is being achieved now, the government said.

The largest increase has been registered in new services agencies, with 3,300 new jobs. In financial services, the number has risen by 900 while the online gaming and retain trade sectors together rose by 1,200 jobs.

Industrial jobs increased by 300, another 350 new jobs were created in the construction industry and the tourism sector registered a rise of 625 full-timers.

The government also noted that the number of part-time jobs increased by 6,800, or 12%.
