So, what a miserable farce

Austin Sammut Wednesday, 17 December 2014, 07:59 Last update: about 10 years ago

When I sat down to see “Xarabank” last Friday, partly to get away from my lady’s cooking competitions or X-Factor, or whatever, on the other TV, I was happy to see that apart from the usual dribble of transsexuals and other dull fair we have now become used to on Xarabank in order not to rock the boat (what a pity indeed!), I found a political debate, including the now usual Toni Abela (Labour sacrificial lamb), of course, and of whom, I must say, I am quite fond; in the proper sense, of course, since one has now to be very cautious! But not only. Nobody less than JPO could be so pathetic. He was miserable. He was totally ineffective. All he could do was interrupt and try to monopolise the debate, talking total rubbish. I think the man should have stayed at home.

I mean representing the Labour Party reminded me of the drama queen weeping at a PN conference under the tent in Mosta in 2008. I was ashamed of him at the time, but very mistakenly went on to vote for him together with three other members of my family. How stupid! And I have told him openly on One TV that he betrayed all his electorate of two districts. But then there was a smart political manipulation of a planned political press conference at the time, which Alfred Sant refused to attend, where the hero suddenly got an unwarranted press card from DOI. Good trick which worked wonders. But now he comes back for the PL, saying he is proud to be part of the PL team. I must admit that I never expected him to go so far and nearly threw up at that one. And this time the trick did not work. The Labour Party has uncovered itself. No principles and no morals. But then? Dom, Karmenu?

JPO was accused of being a traitor (which of course yes he is – well done Frank Psaila, and I repeat that I have accused him of this openly myself). He shot back by saying that there were 40,000 traitors (presumably those who switched as voters – referred to as the “switchers”). Out of 40,000 switchers, not to mention the already existing hard core voters, could the PL have not found somebody to substitute the pathetic and ineffectual JPO, who incidentally could now qualify, in competition with Franco Debono, of course, as leading turncoat and opportunist instead of Manwel Mallia?

But to turn to other journalistically fertile ground. Our PM has now trotted off to Azerbaijan – after concluding (?) with his Chinese masters on Enemalta, power station and the rest. Off he goes, accompanied by the Labour Party magic wand, as usual, although this time without his “first lady”, not to mention the poor girls. But Azerbaijan was not seen (totally mistakenly) as high society, where high tea parties are organised and where one could rub thighs with some ostensibly refined Sliema ladies or men with bow ties, with switches on their head, of course – in fact, wonder whether they paid for their smart meter? But then they don’t occupy a shanty town abode.

And the “first lady” is now worried that the new police minister will disband the police catering corps and that will affect the high tea parties at Ghirgenti and Castille in no small way. Anyway, the point really is that the “first lady” was totally mistaken. I watched a clip on U-tube about Azerbaijani’s President Ilham Aliyev’s daughters. Very attractive ladies. In fact, I would have a word with them. High society. Involved in all sorts of business activities and millionaires in their own right all over the business world’s capitals. What’s more our newly found friend’s young son (eleven year old I believe) owns loads of properties in Dubai; worth millions. So there we are. No wonder our Prime Minister absolved and sanctified Dom Mintoff at his death. He could honourably follow in his foot steps by glorifying the Chinese and Azerbaijani leaders, since Gaddafi, Kim il Sung and Ceaucescu are no longer around. In fact, our Prime Minister’s activities are so ominous and worrying. He is returning to the domination of unsavoury friends. We should really be perturbed. For him money is everything, no holds barred and no moral considerations. God save us all!

On a positive note, I would like to congratulate a couple of ministers (yes true). First of all, Carmelo Abela, whom I have known for a number of years. I know him as being calm, humble and moderate. Hopefully, he will remain that way – although firm. He is the antithesis of his predecessor. He is not arrogant, forceful or a bully. And also Joe Mizzi, though on one count only so far, for the Lija drainage works. The works, in an area which I pass through at least twice a day, were ready before Christmas as promised, with the minimum of traffic disruption. In fact, the temporary traffic arrangement worked without a hitch.
