Malta has the highest increase in job opportunities across the EU, Eurostat report reads

Thursday, 18 December 2014, 17:09 Last update: about 10 years ago

Malta had the largest increase in job opportunities across the EU in the third quarter this year, and the second highest percentage of total job opportunities behind Germany, the government has said.

"This is a positive result confirmed by the European Union statistic agency 'Eurostat', who published the statistic. The rate of work opportunities in Malta is nearly double that of other countries in the EU. The most job opportunities are available in the services sector, which has double the vacancies than the Industrial and construction sectors".

"The statistic only takes into consideration companies with more than ten employees. This publication needs to be interpreted alongside the excellent results our country has achieved in terms of employment. Malta had the highest rate of employment in the Euro area, and regardless of this has the second highest rate of job vacancies. This confirms Malta's potential".

The government is committed to creating more jobs, "which is why we are implementing measures, such as the childcare service, for free. The government is also offering an 'in-work benefits scheme' for those who are currently on social benefits yet are investing in themselves through education and training".

"Thanks to the optimism shown by investors, Malta will continue to create opportunities and will remain one of the best countries in the EU".
