An elderly woman died after she was hit by a car in Victor Vassalli Street, Attard.

The accident happened at around 8.45pm this evening.

The police said that the woman was walking on the pavement with another elderly woman, aged 70, when she was hit by a Toyoya Vitz being driven by a 28-year-old man of Birkirkara.

The car was being driven in the direction of Rabat when the driver lost control and hit the woman after the car climbed onto the pavement. The car ended up also hitting the wall of a residence.

The 70-year-old woman was unhurt but is suffering from shock.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke ordered an inquiry.
