In Malta, it is estimated that 0.9% of the population suffer from eating disorders, with some of the cases being fatal. However, it is only 8% of these 3,700 individuals who seek help.  Young women aged between 15 and 19 are the most likely to suffer from eating disorders, however, over time younger teenagers are also experiencing such situations.

There is an intrinsic correlation between mental and nutrition disorders, with up to 80% of patients of eating disorders also suffering from anxiety or depression.

In the first six months since the launch of Dar Kenn Ghal Sahhtek, 15 individuals have undergone holistic treatment, and in the past days, professionals dealing with such cases had the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences with their colleagues. The institution's team is made up of a number of psychiatrists, occupational therapists, dieticians, nutritionists, psychologists, physiotherapists and nurses. During the seminar, two consultants from eating disorders centres in Italy also had the opportunity to address the team.

President Emeritus George Abela described the Dar Kenn Ghal Sahhtek as a project which allows you to discover yourself and your reason for living, terming the centre's serving as "excellent."

Dar Kenn Ghal Sahhtek is set to launch an awareness campaign, aiming at educating the Maltese public about eating disorder symptoms, and directing more people to be adequately assisted. Meanwhile, the institution is carrying out an in-depth analysis on such disorders.
