Maltese man and Nigerian woman arrested in double-pronged police drug operation

A 28-year-old Nigerian woman who resides in Italy was arrested by the police after she was caught trying to smuggle in three kilogrammes of what is suspected to be cocaine.

The woman was arrested after the substance was found in luggage she was carrying on her way from Pozzallo on board the Sicily-Malta catamaran.

The police later arrested a 35-year-old Maltese man in Paceville who is believed to have been the person to whom the drug was to be delivered.

When the police approached the man, he took off in a car and in his attempt to escape drove on the pavement, hitting a number of park cars before his vehicle came to rest against an electricity pole.

Three officers were injured as they sought to apprehend the man. They suffered slight injuries.

 

The Maltese man and Nigerian woman were arrested.
