The db Hotels + Resorts has launched its annual Puttinu Cares break initiative, through which a number of families with children suffering from cancer will be given a two-day stay at one of its resorts.

The initiative was launched in conjunction with the Puttinu Cares Foundation, with the aim of providing parents and their children with a few days of relaxation and fun during the holiday season.

A total of 30 families will be hosted at the db Seabank Resort + Spa in Mellieħa and the db San Antonio Hotel + Spa Qawra through this initiative, which is a part of the db chain's corporate social responsibility drive.

A specially-designed programme of activities is being organised for these families, including a cooking experience led by the hotel's executive chef and his team, games and entertainment led by the animation team as well as relaxation time. The families will also be given access to all the facilities that the hotels offer to their guests.

"We are committed to support our community in the best way we can. With this annual event we hope to give these families with children suffering from cancer a couple of days away from their daily challenges and difficulties. It is our way of saying, you are not alone, we are here for you," db Hotels + Resorts director Vincent Degiorgio said.

Puttinu Cares president Victor Calvagna welcomed the initiative, stating that he was certain that it would provide well-deserved and timely relief to these parents and their children.

The initiative was endorsed by Social Solidarity Minister Michael Farrugia, who noted that such initiatives helped keep up the morale of these families during a challenging time, and encouraged other entities to follow the hotel chain's example.

He also noted that the government itself continued to support such families, including through new assistance introduced earlier this year which allowed both parents to accompany their children whilst they are receiving treatment overseas.
