There were 1,387 Church weddings last year, a marginal increase over 2013, the Curia said today.

In a statement, the Curia said 1,183 weddings were between Maltese couples. Out of the 53 marriages between Maltese nationals and foreigners, 29 were between Maltese Catholics and foreign Catholics; 20 between Maltese Catholics and non-Catholic Christians; and four marriages of Maltese nationals with non-Christians. 13 marriages between Maltese couples living abroad were registered in Malta and 138 foreign couples got married in Malta.

The  most popular months for weddings were May, June and July. The majority of people who got married in 2014 were aged between 20 and 29.

There were also 48 convalidated weddings, where couples who were married civilly opted for a Church wedding. 6 widowers remarried and 28 others remarried after having their first marriage annulled.

The information was gathered by the Curia's Wedding Office and does not include Church weddings in Gozo.
