About 50 people braved the cold waters of Għadira Bay to collect a total of €2,343 in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza. The charity swim was the initiative of Manuel Calleja of KopTaco with the support of the Malta Rugby Football Union and various fans of boxing, kickboxing, Thai boxing, Karate and other martial arts. The Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youths and Sport, Mr Chris Agius was in attendance.

The weather wreaked havoc of the first attempt of the charity swim on 30 December when high winds and very rough seas led to the the event being postponed. The organisers had to forget the original plan to have the swim at Marfa and went for the safer waters of Għadira Bay. Members from the Emergency Fire & Rescue Unit (E.S.R.U.) were present.
