Total arrivals in collective accommodation establishments during November 2014 declined by 1.6%, while total nights spent remained at par when compared to the corresponding month in 2013.
In November 2014, total arrivals in collective accommodation establishments numbered 100,717, while total nights spent amounted to 543,785. All hotel categories recorded increases in total nights spent, except for 5-star and 3-star hotels. The largest share of guest nights was reported in 4-star hotels, accounting for 286,100 nights, or 52.6% of the total.
The average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments went up from 5.3 nights in November 2013 to 5.4 nights in the same month of 2014. The net use of bed-places stood at 51.7%, up by 3.7 percentage points when compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
Regional Breakdown
Total arrivals in Malta numbered 95,046, down by 1.6% over November 2013. Additionally, a rise of 0.2% was recorded in the number of nights spent. Meanwhile, the average length of stay edged up by 0.1 of a night, to 5.5 when compared to the previous year. The net occupancy rate advanced from 48.4% to 52.4%.
Total arrivals and nights spent in Gozo and Comino decreased by 2.1 and 6.9% respectively, the former reaching 5,671 and the latter 16,331.
Capacity
On a national level, there were 149 active collective accommodation establishments during November 2014, with a net capacity of 16,748 bedrooms and 36,513 bed-places. On average, each establishment had 2.2 beds per room.
January-November 2014
Total arrivals during the first eleven months amounted to almost 1.5 million, an increase of 6.6% over 2013. Total nights spent went up by 3.1%, reaching 8.4 million. The net use of bed-places advanced by 3.0 percentage points to 64.6%.
