The Labour Party is insisting that Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil should act over allegations that MP Toni Bezzina had forced government workers to make a false declaration in a case dating back to 2012.
The allegation was made in an article which was published on last Sunday's edition of the Labour Party's newspaper KullĦadd.
According to the newspaper, Mr Bezzina, who at the time was a government architect working for the Resources Ministry, had asked government workers he was responsible for declare that they had carried out works on the Żurrieq PN club - of which he was president - as voluntary work in their free time.
But KullĦadd is insisting that Mr Bezzina had ordered them to carry out works on the PN club on the government's dime.
The party newspaper said that an inquiry into this case had been kept hidden by the government of the time to ensure that Mr Bezzina's reputation would not be tarnished ahead of the 2013 general election, in which he was the only PN MP elected on the fifth electoral district.
The Labour Party insisted that Dr Busuttil could not remain silent after a member of his shadow cabinet was found to have made a false declaration, stating that changing a political party did not simply involve shifting MPs' portfolios but also by showing that there was a new attitude towards such abuse.
It said that this was another test of political responsibility for the PN leader.
