Following Valletta’s recent nomination to “European Best Destinations”, which was a three week competition to determine the best European destination for 2015 amongst travellers from all over the world, the European Organisation based in Brussels has just announced the final results for the 2015 edition.
The Malta Tourism Authority announced that Valletta has achieved a great result by finishing in fourth place of 20 European destinations. This is surely a great achievement for the Maltese Islands and the Malta Tourism Authority would like to thank all those who provided their support for Valletta throughout this competition.
This year’s ranking of 4th place is definitely a remarkable improvement on the previous performances from past editions. In 2013 Valletta ranked in the 7th place, whil in 2014 Valletta was not even nominated to be in the top 20 European Best Destination.
Valletta achieved this prestigious standing ahead of the big tourism players such as London, Rome and Paris which ranked between the 11th and 20th position.
This clearly shows that the marketing efforts to position Valletta as an ideal short break cultural destination is bearing fruit. More so this competition continued to provide the Maltese Islands with additional exposure amongst prospective travellers.
The overall winner was Bordeaux in France. This year’s competition was a great success with almost 250,000 votes being cast and nearly 25,000 shares through social networks.
Malta received over 21,500 votes as well as a number of positive comments from overseas voters, and amongst others included the following two notable positive comments:
“We do not always know it, but Malta is a beautiful and ecological destination for nature lovers. I recommend visiting Nadur and Gharb, two beautiful green destinations”.
“Malta is a destination that made me dream before I went there and that makes me dream more now that I’m back home”.
