In an effort to encourage its people to opt for a more environmental friendly lifestyle, Bank of Valletta installed a number of electronic charging points within its garage at BOV Centre Santa Venera, specifically designated to be used by BOV employees.
The first electronic point was installed when the Bank ‘adopted’ an electronic car within its fleet for several months last year. This was part of the EU Demo EV Life+ Funded Project driven by the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure.
The promotion of such an initiative is seen as a natural progression for the Bankin a bid to promote cleaner and a more silent means of transportation. BOV employees owning an electronic car may now reserve slots to charge their vehicles free of charge.
Speaking about the Bank’s commitment towards Green Banking, Mark Marmara, the Environmental Manager at Bank of Valletta explained that shifting to a more environmental-friendly lifestyle takes time and commitment. The Bank feels that promoting green practices within the community in which it operates, particularly its employees and customers, is an integral part of its role as a corporate citizen.
One of the Bank’s employees, Ray Cassar, who has been using the EV points provided by the Bank for the past months explained how a full battery, which requires eight hours to charge still works out cheaper than filling an average car tank with fuel.
