The head of a statue of Our Lady placed in a niche at San Gwann Ditch in Valletta was deliberately severed on the night between Thursday and Friday, police confirmed to The Malta Independent.

The police received report of the vandal act this morning, and have now elevated the rest of the statue to help them in their investigations.

This is the second incident involving religion in 24 hours. On Thursday morning, the words “death to Christians” were written on the walls of a chapel and bus-stops in Qrendi.

 

The police are investigating.
