As Mgr Charles Scicluna has been officially named as Malta’s new Archbishop by Pope Francis, The Malta Independent went to Valletta to ask people what they think about the decision.

Most of those who commented welcomed the decision positively, saying that Mgr Scicluna has the necessary knowledge and experience to lead the church in Malta, and the right communication skills to reach out to the faithful.

Many were those who said that Mgr Scicluna should focus on preaching the importance of unity, particularly within the family. Others said that the church needs to undergo major reforms in order to regain its trust.
