Updated: 36-year-old diver dies in hospital after being involved in dockyard accident

 A 36-year-old man from Zejtun has died in an accident at the shipyards.

A police spokesperson said the man was doing some underwater work in one of the docks but failed to resurface.

A search was mounted and the man was brought to shore by members of the Civil Protection Department and the Armed Forces. He was reportedly found in stuck in a hole. According to reports the man might have been sucked in by a gate valve which was operated by someone unaware of the diver.

The man was ferried to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance but lost his life shortly after.

The accident happened at 11.45am. This newsroom waited the man’s wife was informed before publishing this report.
