Man jailed for one year for attempted theft and cannabis possession

A 26-year-old man from Somalia today was jailed for a year and fined €466 ater admitting to cannabis possession and attempting to rob a house in Marsa.

The man was also found guilty of breaching the terms of a conditional discharge.

A court heard how the Somali man, Mustafa Mohamud Mohamed, fled the scene when traffic police saw he trying to enter the house.

He managed to escape from the police but was arrest a short while later when the police found him on a public bus.

The owner of the house he attempted to rob is an elderly woman who resides at St Vincent de Paul.

Inspectors Edel Camilleri and Robert Vella prosecuted.
