Bezzina says Muscat refused private sector offer which could have saved millions in public funds

PN Toni Bezzina tonight hit out at Prime Minister Joseph Muscat for having ignored an offer made by the private sector tied to Cafe Premier which would have saved millions of euros spent in public funds – that of €4.2m.

Speaking during the parliamentary debate, he was referring to the fact that a private firm made an offer which was close to the amount paid out by the government to purchase property which it already owned.

Instead of reviewing the offer, the Prime Minister chose to ignore it, he said. This continues to prove that the deal between the government and Cafe Premier’s owners stinks of corruption.

To add insult to injury, Mr Bezzina added, the deal had been struck despite the fact that the lease term of Cafe Premier had expired.

Turning to Enemalta, he said that workers and their families are concerned over the uncertainty surrounding the corporation in terms of jobs. This, he said, was not the PL’s pre election pledge.
