Thursday, 5 March 2015, 15:12 Last update: about 10 years ago

In October 2014, the number of people in full-time employment was 6,093 more than that in October of the previous year, with more than 17 jobs having been created daily in a span of a year. This is almost three times as many as those created during previous administration, the government said in a statement today.

10,006 new jobs were created as of March 2013. This in comparison to the 10,629 jobs created during five years of Nationalist Administration, the government continued.

Yet again, most of jobs were created in the service sector, with 905 jobs in administrative services, 709 in technical services and 593 in information and communication services. In addition, 495 jobs were created in the retail sector, 348 in the financial sector and 590 in the gaming field.  250 positions were also filled within the manufacturing and construction industry.

If one had to take into account the 700 former Arriva drivers now employed with the new transport operator, the increase in full time employment within the private sector reaches 4,512. This is almost 2,000 more than that achieved in the last year of Nationalist legislature.

Employment in Gozo increased by 506 jobs, almost 28 times as many during the previous administration.

Within the public sector, 415 people were employed in addition to 385 working in education within public institutions.

Such figures, the statement concluded, indicates the results of the government’s effort to create more jobs, and to distribute wealth equally.
