The Minister for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties Dr Helena Dalli addressed a side event organised by the Netherlands on lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex women during the 59th session of the Commission on the Status of women.

In her address, Dr Dalli renewed Malta's commitment to continue supporting greater LGBTIQ equality at the regional and international level and spoke about recent developments locally, in particular, the amendments to the constitution preventing all forms of discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and the Gender Identity, Gender Expressions and Sex Characteristics Bill currently being discussed in parliament.

Malta's efforts on LGBTI equality were commended by Ms Marja Ruotanen, Director of Justice and Human Dignity Directorate of the Council of Europe, who singled out Malta in her intervention as a "leading example" in Europe.
