A tweet by the US Ambassador to Libya caused uproar on Twitter, resulting in her taking a hiatus from the social networking site.

The Ambassador tweeted about an alleged air strike that allegedly resulted in the deaths of a number of civillians. The strike was allegedly launched by the Internationally recognised Tobruk government.

Yesterday, Ambassador Deborah Jones, currently residing in Malta, tweeted that eight innocent Tawergha (a minority group) were killed during an air strike in Tarhouna, Libya.

This post resulted in an uproar on her Twitter account, with numerous people posting that this information was incorrect. Some claimed that it was militias, and not the internationally recognised government, who killed the persons in question while others said that none were killed. One person dubbed as a Freelance Journalist said he travelled to Tarhouna and said that there were no civilian casualties.

The Ambassador then posted that she had received information from both sides regarding this alleged air strike, however a number of commentators remained adamant that the information was wrong.

Later, the Ambassador began to block those posting "vulgar tweets" however then chose to cease communication via Twitter altogether.
