PL says roads in Mosta are a disaster; questions conflict of interest in mayor’s decisions

The Labour Party is not satisfied with the state of roads in Mosta and has pledged that a council led by a Labour majority will work to change this.

In a press conference at tad-Dib in Mosta, the PL’s executive segretary Lydia Abela said that contrary to what the Nationalist Party said, the roads are in a disastrous state.  There are 90 roads in Mosta which are in such as state, in zones such as tal-Wej, Santa Margerita, Sant’ Andrija and Ta’ Mlit.  These roads have been left out of the report compiled by the company owned by the husband of Shirley Farrugia, the mayor of Mosta. Mrs Farrugia is also a sharedholder of this company.

Because the council failed to do so, the central government carried out roadworks in 11 roads -  Triq Strinġell, Triq id-Dawr , kif ukoll Triq Antonio Miruzzi, Triq Dun Karm Sciberras, Triq Gio Maria Camilleri, Triq il-Poeta, Triq ir-Rifuġjati tal-Gwerra, Triq l-Għonella, Triq tal-Blata l-Għolja, Triq il-Ħbit mill-Ajru, Triq iċ-Ċiklisti.

More works are to be carried out in the Blata l-Gholja zone.

During the press conference, Dr Abela asked why the report remained hidden by mayor Shirley Farrugia, while PL’s President Daniel Micallef questioned why Mrs Farrugia failed to declare a conflict of interest with the rest of the council.  Minister Owen Bonnici also expressed that he is very disappointment with the council’s actions.

10 candidates will be running on the PL’s ticket in the upcoming local council elections.
