Hundreds of passengers landing at Malta International Airport (MIA) were greeted by volunteers from HSBC Water Programme - Catch the Drop, a life-sized dog, and water themed giveaways as part of the World Water Day Week celebrations.
As passengers made their way to the baggage reclaim area, their mood was uplifted by the HSBC Water Programme songs as presented by a group of students from Our Lady Immaculate School. HSBC Water Programme - Catch the Drop joined hands with the Malta Airport Foundation to organise the unique experience.
Passengers arriving on flights between 14.00hrs and 15.00hrs received freebies, which included specially designed t-shirts and caps for adults and educational colouring booklets for children.
HSBC Water Programme - Catch the Drop is the largest initiative ever to take place in Malta around the message of water conservation, and now, partnering with the Malta Airport Foundation will enable the campaign to have an even wider reach.
World Water Day is marked on Sunday 22nd March. Earlier, HSBC Malta officially launched its weeklong celebrations of the World Water Day Week at the Archbishop Seminary, Rabat, with the inauguration of a new water saving project, called Hippo.

CEO Mark Watkinson said: "Since the launch in 2013, HSBC Water Programme has been instrumental in raising the profile of water issues facing Malta at schools and local council levels. The unique experience at the Malta International Airport now takes the waves of water conservation messages to incoming visitors, with a view to making them aware about the water sustainability challenges facing us."
Malta Airport Foundation Chairman Frederick Mifsud Bonnici said: "Tourists consume twice as much water as locals do when on vacation in Malta. Through the HSBC Water programme - Catch the Drop campaign, the Malta Airport Foundation is addressing this impact by generating awareness for the conservation of water whilst on holiday on our Island."
