A total of €43 million was spent on 28 educational projects nearing completion, Minister for Education Evarist Bartolo said today.

He was visiting the construction site at St Nicholas College, where an addition to the current school is being built.

This particular school will house a museum in the basement, where archaeological artefacts from the 3rd and 4th century BC wave been found. As such, the Minister said that care was taken when building the site and the structural support columns were built around such artefacts. The Minister explained that deposits of human cremation as well as pottery were found. During construction, Superintendants of Structural Heritage had gone on site to ensure no damage was incurred and gave recommendations as to the construction of the first floor.

The school will also house a hall which could be used by the Community. It will house middle school students.

The Minister stressed that mega-schools are no longer fit for the modern educational system, and as such smaller schools are being constructed "with a community-feel leading to better learning and improved behaviour".

All 28 projects are nearing completion, the Minister added.
