On 11 April, the people of Malta will decide on Spring hunting, without any guidance from the political parties.
The referendum will also decide whether the interests of the people as a whole will be given more weight than the interests of a small group of people.
This was the message given by Mark Sultana at a SHout rally in Valletta today.
Mr Sultana added: If the referendum is lost, the hunters will get the message they can do what they like.
If the referendum is lost, Malta will be the only country in the EU that permits Spring hunting.
If the referendum is lost, this will boost all those who want the clock (of progress) stopped.
For many months, a war has been waged to stop the referendum from taking place. There were protests on the streets and protests at court.
Those who wanted a referendum were called anti-democratic and intolerant. If that is the case, all referenda that there have been in Malta were wrong.
On the contrary however, the referendum is the best democratic tool in the hands of the people.
For many, many years, the hunters blackmailed the politicians with their vote. The time has come for this to stop.
There are MPs on either side who intend to vote against Spring hunting, and thousands of PL and PN supporters.
If the No vote wins, Malta will have taken another step to be as the other countries and even better than them.
When Spring hunting was banned, some years ago, so many birds came to Malta, some breeds we never knew could come.
